Detached [v0.7.1] By Scruffles

Scruffles Games released a new game called Detached and the version is 0.7.1. The game’s story is about Welcome! I’m Scruffles, and I have a story to tell. Detached is a lewd psychological horror comedy dating sim that touches on mental health, illness, and spookiest. It follows the life of Daine, a 25-year-old man that is just discovering what it means to actually live, his road to recovery, and discovering himself. Of course, not everything is as it seems as there are many players out there, both in the Plane of the Mundane and the supernatural, pushing and prodding him down the gentle stream of fate. One of these players is you, the Hand of Fate.

As the Hand of Fate, you will help guild Daine through his daily life, choosing where he goes, and what girls he’ll visit to increase their affection towards him. Along the way, you’ll get to know their own stories and histories while the world’s mysteries unravel before you.

  • 5 Generic Events
  • Zeke’s ‘The Hideout’ generic is now playable after the event ‘I Like You’, in tandem with Rose’s.
  • 14, 485 Words
  • 534 Renders
  • 4 new songs
  • Reworked event colours for QoL reasons
  • Green is for events triggered by calls. The other colours remain the same (Purple = lewd with choice, Red = lewd without choice/Lewd choice made in Purple Event, and Blue = Non-lewd choice made in Purple Event).
  • In the event that a call event leads to lewds, Green takes priority.
  • Also, because I am a liar and it was requested, there is now an additional explanation for all of this in my in-game blurb at the beginning of the sandbox.
  • Added in scroll bars for events and hints for easier navigation.
  • Fixed Rose’s Bar generic event render to the correct one. Previously had Lupe’s.
  • Daine no longer steals Hanako’s line in the ‘Courtesy Rounds’ event.
  • New songs have not been added to Zeke’s Jam Session. For whatever reason, it crashes when I add them, so I will hopefully have that figured out by 0.5.0.
  • Fixed the Back button in Audrey’s Lewd screen

v0.3.0 – Public release!

  • 3 Rose Events
  • 3 Audrey Events
  • 4 Generic Events
  • 1 Lewd Event
  • 1 Repeatable Lewd Generic Event
  • 13,120 Words
  • 370 Renders
  • 3 Animations
  • 5 new songs
  • NEW! Jam Session option in the Main Menu brings you to ‘Zeke’s Jam Session’, the Jukebox of Detached! Listen to the OST without using any of those pesky media applications! (I still use Winamp though because I’m stuck in the mid 2000s apparently)
  • Added in a checklist in a character’s event screen for any locations that have requirements for them to show up (IE, Mall) because QoL. When a requirement is met, the corresponding part of the list disappears to remove unnecessary clutter.
  • Added in a little bit of extra information regarding finding Main/Character Events and Hints in my blurb when first being introduced to the pseudo sandbox. (You can find character-specific events screen in their respective menus).
  • A character’s lewd events are now colour coded. There will be no hints for this in the game.
  • Mostly figured out the reason for the rough phone transition. Mostly. Now I’m having an issue with previous messages carrying over to new messages, so ignore that part for now. Will be fixed in a future update.

Developer Notes:

Detached is project that I never thought I would end up coming this far in making. I’ve been into writing and drawing since elementary school, drawing comics and writing short stories, and roleplaying forums were basically all staples of mine all through school.

A particular genre I’ve always been fascinated by is Fantasy. A dream of mine is authoring a series of Military Dark Fantasy novels based on a long running roleplay rich with lore I had amongst a group of friends through middle school. Something I actually started, but unfortunately sits shelved for the time being.

No matter what I’m doing though, whether it’s focusing on my art or my novel, I usually end up finding writing prompts and just throwing out a quick mini story here and there, or texting my friends with absurd imagery through words, all of which usually sit of the line of insanity and horror.

But then, I saw that there are people genuinely enjoy absurdist existential content like that. I’ve come across other games that aren’t afraid to tickle that horrible little corner of heavy story telling, that aren’t afraid to play with your emotions like some kind of sick and twisted pervert, that aren’t afraid to write a story that makes you feel conflicted on how you should feel about ejoying your time reading it.

So I thought, “Why not try and make something with this weird writing style I use to meme on people?” And thus began a project that I never thought I would make, and would never in a million years have thought I’d make it this far.
